History AmTech (American Technology Alliances) formed in 1989 with a grant from NASA to study public-private sector collaboration through practical experience with real cases. AmTech's work with NASA resulted in policy changes that favored partnerships with industry and the Agency's adoption of a non-traditional legal agreement (the JSRA) architected by AmTech. AmTech went on to negotiate for NASA partnerships with large and small companies worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Several of these partnerships resulted in the successful introduction of breakthroughs in aviation and won national awards. NASA has been a steady client since 1989. AmTech turned its focus from analysis and policy work to hands-on facilitation of collaboration. With its extensive contacts in aerospace, AmTech's multidisciplinary group addressed the many operational challenges of leaders and teams engaged in real-time collaborative activities. The AmTech group has an unparalleled understanding of the practical requirements underlying effective collaborations. Projects proliferated with government agencies, large and small companies, universities and nonprofit organizations over a fifteen year period. AmTech's close association with computer luminary Dr. Douglas Engelbart (inventor of the computer mouse and hypertext (internet linking)) inspired its foray into e-collaboration tools and group knowledge management practices. Since 1994, AmTech has built customized tools and helped clients evaluate, select, implement and train users on commercial collaboration software products. It has applied library science to the collaboration space and led teams to structure knowledge, repositories, access rights, and sharing protocols. The company's core team is a highly integrated group of energetic professionals who have worked together a long time and developed a common passion for and proficiency at catalyzing collaboration. The core team is supplemented by a network of close affiliates who work with AmTech as required to fulfill client needs. AmTech is supported by a distinguished Board of Directors. The woman-directed company, a California 501c3 organization, is based in Redwood City, in the heart of Silicon Valley. |
